Today an email came in from Rudolf Dethu’s website and I couldn’t stop reading the article until the end.
The Hydrant seemed to really enjoy their tour at Viva Las Vegas.
Binggo!
The biggest rockabilly festival in the world.
The Hydrant is the first band from Southeast Asia to be invited to this festival.
And what makes us proud is the fact that they struggled to raise the funds to get to Vegas.
Financially, The Hydrant is a local Balinese band with personnel who are not wealthy.

The Hydrant tried to bring a Balinese feel to the costumes worn during their performance at the Bienvile Room.
One of the ballrooms where Viva las Vegas was held.
“All of The Hydrant’s mainstay works were unveiled on stage.
From oldies like “Rockabilly Riot” (from their debut album with a major label, Rockabilly Live), from the transitional era of “Boogie Cadillac” (from the 2011 album, Dirty Thirty), until single “My Music is Rock ‘n’ Roll” (from the most recent album, Lokananta Riot). Each song was greeted enthusiastically by the audience. Not only those in English, but also those with Indonesian lyrics such as “Jalan Jalan”. So much so that Marshello led the choir. Oh, there was something else that was ultra special, while humming as usual Marshello performed his typical ritual: taking a hairbrush from the bag and tidying up his pompadour. Eh, unexpectedly, one of the female audience members took the initiative to get on stage and volunteered to help Marshello comb his hair. Suddenly, the audience burst into screams and suits.” -rudolfdethu.com

Haha, I always love Marshello’s smile. Whatever it is, I think we should be proud and appreciate the achievements of this rockabilly music group from Bali. From limitations, they can still work and introduce their own culture to the big stage. Cheers!
