Ska.
This genre of music originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s and is the predecessor of rocksteady and reggae.
Ska combines elements of mento music [simple music with humorous lyrics accompanied by guitar, banjo, tambourine, shaker, scraper and rumba or bass box. This form became popular in the 20s and 30s and was the first Jamaican musical form], and calypso music from the Caribbean with jazz and rhythm and blues from the United States.
Characteristic of this music is a walking bass line with an accentuation on upbeat rhythms [tidak keras].
In the early 1960s, ska was the dominant music genre in Jamaica and popular among the mods [Mod itself comes from Modern or Modernist which describes the modern-minded English people of the era. Mods were born as a form of protest against the upper middle class that the working class could also look good with a dapper and dandy style. Mod was also a form of expression of “dislike” for traditional jazz music listened to by most British people at that time and the Mods preferred to listen to Ska, R n B and Soul music from black Americans].
This music became popular among skinheads [a sub-culture born in London, England in the late 1960s. The name Skinhead refers to the followers of this culture whose hair is trimmed bald. Before the beginning of the Skinhead era, there was a group of teenagers called Mods who were beginners to skinheads].
