Microsoft has announced a new version of Bing, its search engine, which is now integrated with artificial intelligence (AI) technology created by OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT.1. The artificial intelligence technology used in the new version of Bing, is the same technology that powers ChatGPT1.
Bing and ChatGPT: A Deadly Duet in Information Retrieval
The new version of Bing is powered by GPT 3.5 technology, the same AI model used by OpenAI in ChatGPT.1. With this technology, Bing can provide more detailed answers or up-to-date information.1.
This new version of Bing comes with a chatbot that will be usable in at least two configurations1. The first configuration is that the Bing chatbot will be present on the right in the search results page on Bing1. In this configuration, the chatbot will likely act as an assistant to help users explore more information about what they’re looking for.1.
In the second configuration, the Bing chatbot will resemble a “clean” ChatGPT and will not have a search results page.1. In this configuration, users can enter various questions to search for various information they need, just like when they use ChatGPT.1.
New Feature: Image Search
In addition, Bing also gets a new feature in the form of the ability to search images2. This Visual Search feature can already be used by Bing chatbot users on desktop and mobile applications.2.
Users can upload images or take photos directly, and then ask AI to answer questions or interpret what is in the image.2. For example, when uploading a photo of an Iron Man display and asking “what character is the action figure”, Bing correctly answered that the character is Iron Man from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.2.
With this combination of ChatGPT intelligence and realtime search features, Bing makes it easier for users to search for everything on the internet.
This is a big step for Microsoft in competing with other search engines and providing a new experience for users.
