How Youtube Algorithm Works

2 min read

For YouTube creators, knowing how the YouTube Algorithm works can be an advantage.
The majority of new creators are inspired by popular content produced by creators who have already risen.
But many new creators also rise quickly armed with new characters, new content that was previously unpopular.

What actually determines whether a piece of content is popular?

Learning from previous Youtube channels, I think that from a technical point of view such as Video Quality, Editing, Thumbnails (Cover), Description and Hastag certainly have a role to make it easier for Youtube to see our videos.
But the fact is not!
Is this true?

You must have come across content that is far from perfect, but unique and trending or viral.
An example is the Keke Bukan Boneka video that trended in 2020.
How does the video work?

This is the answer.

The real Youtube algorithm is called ‘Fans’.

And this fact, is not my estimate.
But Youtube itself said it.

What kind of videos does the algorithm like the most?

Believe it or not, our algorithms don’t have an opinion on the content you create.
It focuses on content that your audience is likely to like based on a number of factors such as videos they’ve watched before, content they’ve liked & disliked, and feedback they’ve given.
So, instead of trying to satisfy the algorithm, concentrate on your fans.
That way, the algorithm will follow.
(Youtube Creator Newsletter-March 2021)

Keke Bukan Boneka video, can skyrocket because there is a uniqueness that makes Youtube users watch and provide feedback (like, comment) continuously.
So that quickly the video rises and trending.

This (trending) would not have happened if the video, Keke Bukan Boneka, had not triggered people to respond/feedback.

If you are a YouTube creator, you should have received an email about this material in the March 2021 Creators Monthly Newsletter containing this material.

Conclusion

Instead of focusing on content that is popular at the moment, the competition is definitely high.
I think focusing on unique content and having your own character is key.
When fans discover your content, be prepared to become popular.
